MILWAUKEE - Mitchell Carter of Milwaukee, Wis., Christian Wolf of Kohler, Wis., and Quinton Gustavson of Racine, Wis., have all been added to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball roster as the 2009-10 school year gets underway.

Carter and Wolf are Division I transfers who will have to sit out the upcoming season, while Gustavson comes to campus as a true freshman. Carter will receive a scholarship, while Wolf and Gustavson are on the roster as walk-ons.

The additions provide a tremendous amount of size for the Panthers' roster. Carter is 6-foot-10 while both Wolf and Gustavson are 6-foot-9.

"If you look back over the last couple of years, we've been one of the smallest teams in the league," head coach Rob Jeter said. "Now we can be one of the biggest teams in the league. We are getting a player who has played for South Carolina in one of the power conferences. He is very skilled for a big man, he is a veteran and he gives us some legitimate size inside. Christian played a year in college - started some games at Florida Gulf Coast - but again we're adding size. Size is something we have realized is more important so we've added players like Mitch, Quinton and Christian."

Carter played in 35 games over the last three seasons at South Carolina after a strong prep career at Milwaukee King High School. Carter played in 20 games last season, averaging just over a point a game. His best outing at USC came in mid-December of this past season, when he scored eight points and added four rebounds in a win over North Carolina Central.

At King, Carter averaged 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as a senior, earning McDonald's Classic All-America honors. He helped King to four regional and three sectional championships, and was highly-recruited by schools in the SEC, ACC and Big East.

Wolf played in 30 games as a true freshman at Florida Gulf Coast this past season. He earned eight starts and wound up averaging 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game. His best outing came against league-rival Jacksonville, when he scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.

A prep star at Kohler High School, Wolf earned Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 4 Player of the Year honors as a senior. He was also a first-team Division 4 All-State honoree and a fourth-team all-divisions all-state performer. He was also a three-time all-conference honoree and was nominated as a McDonald's All-American.

Gustavson put together a solid career at Racine Case High School. He was an All-Southeast Conference and All-Racine County performer as a senior, when he averaged 10.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while making 34 three-pointers. His best game came against Oak Creek, when he poured in 26 points, and he also had four outings of 17 points.

He earned himself a spot as an alternate for the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division I All-Star Game. Overall, Gustavson was a three-year starter at Case, also earning honorable mention all-conference honors as a junior.

UWM has officially opened preseason conditioning and will start full practices in mid-October. The Panthers are slated to start the exhibition season Nov. 4 against Cardinal Stritch, with Milwaukee's full schedule still to be announced.
