MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has hired Ryan Swanson as a men's basketball assistant coach, head coach Bruce Pearl announced today.

Swanson was the head coach at Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa, this past season. Prior to that, Swanson served as the head coach at St. Catharine Junior College in Springfield, Ky. He also spent a year as an assistant coach at Barton County Community College, and a year as a graduate assistant basketball coach at Hutchinson Community College.

Swanson, a graduate of Kansas State University, compiled a record of 92-37 in his four years as a head coach.

"Ryan has been associated with four outstanding junior college basketball programs, including two successful head coaching positions," Pearl said. "His experience and ability to evaluate, recruit, and coach student-athletes will make him an effective assistant."

While at Marshalltown CC, Swanson also served as an admissions representative. At St. Catharine College, he was an adjunct member of the faculty in the physical education department.

As a player, Swanson won the 1988 National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship at Hutchinson Community College. He was also named an Academic All-American in 1989.

Swanson joins Tony Jones and Ken Johnson as assistant coaches for Pearl, who was hired by UWM in April.
