Shay Added To Men's Basketball Staff
July 19, 2001 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has hired Jason Shay as an administrative assistant for the men's basketball program, head coach Bruce Pearl announced today. Shay spent the last two seasons as an assistant basketball coach and assistant sports information director at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa. Prior to moving to Mercyhurst, Shay spent a year as the Director of Game Operations for the Quad City Thunder in the Continental Basketball Association, and two years as an assistant basketball coach at Galesburg High School in Galesburg, Ill. At Mercyhurst, Shay was responsible for individual workouts, the team's strength program, film exchange, scouting reports, and monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes. He also assisted with on-court coaching strategies in helping Mercyhurst to a number-five ranking in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region. "Jason's background on and off the court will make him a valuable administrator," Pearl said. "He has experiences at every level and a knowledge and passion for the game of basketball."
Shay played for four years as a walk-on at the University of Iowa, under the direction of Dr. Tom Davis and then-assistant coach Pearl. He earned a bachelor's degree in Health Promotion at Iowa and a master's degree in Sports Management in 1998 from Western Illinois University.
