Page Helps Team To Title At Portsmouth
April 12, 2004 MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Dylan Page helped his Norfolk Naval Shipyard team to the championship of the pre-NBA draft Portsmouth Invitational this past weekend. Page, who averaged 16 ppg in three contests, scored a team-high 23 points in a 100-85 win over Beach Barton Ford in the title game. Earlier in the tournament, Page scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting in a 104-71 win over Sales Systems LTD before tossing in 11 points in a 109-75 win over MD Designs. Page started two of the three contests, averaging 29 minutes per game. He converted on just under 50 percent of his field goal attempts in the three contests while making 6 three-point shots. His efforts landed him, along with four of his teammates, on the all-tournament team. The Amherst, Wis., native was one of 64 college seniors invited to the event, which showcases talent for the upcoming NBA draft. Page, the Horizon League Player of the Year and an honorable mention Associated Press All-American, led the Panthers and the Horizon League in scoring this season while leading UWM to the regular season Horizon League title and its second-straight post-season appearance. Page ranked in the top 10 in the Horizon League in seven different statistical categories while winning Mid-Major All-American honors from CollegeInsider.com and all-region honors from both the United States Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He led the Panthers in scoring 23 times this past season while scoring 20 or more points 20 times. During his career at UWM, Page led the Panthers to a pair of Horizon League titles, an NCAA Tournament berth in 2003 and an NIT berth and the school's first Division I post-season win in 2004.
This was the second-straight year UWM has had a player invited to the Portsmouth Invitational. Last year Clay Tucker played at Portsmouth and spent this past season playing for the Sundsvall Dragons in Sweden.
