Tucker Headed To Portsmouth Tournament
April 8, 2003 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Clay Tucker has been invited to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, one of the premier pre-NBA Draft events in the country. Tucker is one of 64 collegiate seniors invited to attend, which begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday. "I tell the team that when we are successful, you will benefit as an individual far more than if you are successful as an individual on a failing team," UWM head coach Bruce Pearl said. "Clay's outstanding performances versus Butler on ESPN and versus Notre Dame on CBS pushed him over the top. We don't get there without him and he might have missed out personally. He truly deserves this invite." Tucker finished his career as UWM's all-time leading scorer, tallying 1,788 points in his career. He also finished his career as UWM's all-divisions leader in three-point field goals and steals and the school's Division I leader in field goals made, rebounds and minutes played. This past season, Tucker averaged 17.8 ppg and 4.8 rpg and was a first-team All-Horizon League performer. He was also named the Horizon League Tournament's Most Valuable Player after leading the Panthers to the league tournament title and their first NCAA Tournament berth.
At the camp, Tucker will play on the Norfolk Sports Club team along with fellow Horizon League standout Joel Cornette of Butler. Detroit's Willie Green was also invited to the tournament.
