Roberts Earns CollegeHoops.net All-Freshman Recognition

First-year standout collects honorable mention honors

March 31, 2008

MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball freshman Deonte Roberts has earned CollegeHoops.net Mid-Major All-Freshman honorable mention recognition, the website announced today.

Roberts was one of three Horizon League players honored by the website, which placed Butler's Matt Howard on the first team and Rahmon Fletcher of Green Bay on the honorable mention squad.

Roberts started 25 games for the Panthers, averaging 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. The true freshman from St. Paul, Minn., reached double figures in scoring seven times this season, including 17-point efforts against Wyoming and Green Bay.

His final stats placed him into UWM's freshman record book in a pair of categories, with his 71 assists tying Kalombo Kadima for the best freshman mark in school history and his 210 points placing him ninth on the school's Division I freshman list.

Roberts also earned a spot on the Horizon League's All-Newcomer Team earlier this month, becoming the first UWM true freshman to earn all-newcomer honors since Adrian Tigert was recognized following the 2001-02 season.
