MILWAUKEE - Youngstown State's road win at UW-Green Bay highlighted the first day of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship, which will now move to the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee this weekend.

YSU snapped a 29-game road losing streak in beating UW-Green Bay, 65-61, to advance to Friday's 7:30 p.m. second-round contest against UIC (20-7), which received a bye into the second round. Detroit beat Wright State, 78-61, and Loyola beat Cleveland State, 69-57, to advance to a 5 p.m. Friday meeting in the first second-round contest. Top-seeded Butler and second-seeded UWM both receive byes into the semifinals, which will be played Saturday night.

Tickets for the games Friday and Saturday are on sale now at all Milwaukee-area Ticket Master outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 414-276-4545.

If UWM wins Saturday night, they would host the championship game Tuesday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

#4 Loyola 69, #9 Cleveland State 57

CHICAGO - David Bailey scored 23 points to lead three Ramblers in double figures as Loyola Chicago beat Cleveland State, 69-57, Tuesday night in a first round game of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship at the Gentile Center.

The fourth-seeded Ramblers (16-15) shot 51.7 percent in the second half to pull away from the ninth-seeded Vikings (8-22), who trailed just 25-21 at halftime.

Demetrius Williams added 14 points and Paul McMillan tossed in 13 for the Ramblers.

Tahric Gosley had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Percell Coles and Jonathan Burge added 12 points apiece for Cleveland State.

Loyola outrebounded Cleveland State, 46-30, and the Ramblers forced 19 Viking turnovers.

#5 Detroit 78, #8 Wright State 61

DETROIT - Terrell Riggs scored a career-high 28 points to lead Detroit to a 78-61 win over Wright State in the first round of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship Tuesday night at Calihan Hall.

The Titans (16-11), seeded fifth in the championship, advance to a second- round contest Friday night at 5 p.m. CST against Loyola at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee.

Horizon League Player of the Year Willie Green added 20 points for the Titans, who built a 10-point halftime edge and never let Wright State seriously threaten in the second half.

Seth Doliboa and Vernard Hollins scored 25 points apiece for the Raiders (10- 17), who were seeded eighth in the championship.

Detroit won the game thanks to large edges in field goal shooting and rebounding. The Titans shot 53.2 percent from the field compared to just 42.9 percent for Wright State, while Detroit outrebounded the Raiders, 36-22.

#7 Youngstown State 65, #6 UW-Green Bay 61

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Marlon Williamson scored 22 points to help Youngstown State snap a 29-game road losing streak with a 65-61 win over UW-Green Bay Tuesday in a Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship first round game at the Resch Center.

The seventh-seeded Penguins (9-18) also got 16 points from Doug Underwood and 10 points from Bill Mallernee in winning a Horizon League post-season game for the first-time ever.

Youngstown State will face UIC Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in a second-round contest at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

Greg Babcock scored 19 points and Mike King added 17 points for the sixth- seeded Phoenix (10-20), who shot just 31.5 percent from the field.

The game included an amazing 46 offensive rebounds, including 27 by Youngstown State.
