Panthers To Face Loyola In League Semis

Ramblers advance with win over Titans

March 3, 2006

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will face Loyola Saturday in the semifinals of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship after the Ramblers beat Detroit, 64-55, Friday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

All fans are encouraged to arrive early for Saturday's game to avoid missing the tipoff of the contest, scheduled for approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal between UW-Green Bay and Butler. That first game tips off at 3:30 p.m.

The U.S. Cellular Arena box office will re-open at noon Saturday for day-of-game sales, while tickets remain available at all Milwaukee-area Ticket Master outlets, by phone at 414-276-4545 or online at ticketmaster.com. UWM season-ticket holders who have not yet picked up their tickets for Saturday can also do so beginning at noon at the U.S. Cellular Arena, and UWM students who also still do not have tickets for the game can purchase them at the Arena. Fans can enter the Arena for the first game beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Both of Saturday's Horizon League semifinals are being televised live by ESPNU, which will control the tipoff time of both games. Officials have said the UWM-Loyola game could tipoff a few minutes earlier than the published start time of 6 p.m. should the UW-Green Bay/Butler contest end early.

Friday's win by the Ramblers was marked by a runaway second-half effort after both teams struggled in the first 20 minutes. Loyola led just 31-29 with 16:11 remaining in the game before scoring 19-straight points to take control of the contest.

Brandon Woods scored 16 points to lead the Ramblers (19-10), while J.R. Blount added 15 and Blake Schilb pitched-in with 12.

Brandon Cotton led Detroit (16-16) with 20 points.

In Friday's other tournament action, Ryan Tillema scored 22 points and Ryan Evanochko contributed a double-double of 11 points and 14 assists to lead Green Bay to a 76-66 win over Illinois-Chicago. The third-seeded Phoenix will now face second-seeded Butler, which swept UWGB during the regular season.
