Panthers Still Alive For First-Round Tourney Home GameFeb. 23, 2007
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team remains alive for hosting a Horizon League Tournament first-round game entering the final day of the regular season. In order to host a game Tuesday night, UWM will need to win at UW-Green Bay Saturday while having Detroit fall at Butler and UIC lose at Loyola. In this scenario, the Panthers would be part of a three-way tie for sixth with Detroit and UIC, and UWM would claim the sixth seed thanks to its win earlier this season over Wright State. Should UWM win Saturday night but see either Detroit or UIC also win, the Panthers can finish no better than the seventh seed and could play a variety of teams on the road in the first round. If UWM loses at UWGB Saturday night, Milwaukee will be the eighth seed and will play at Youngstown State in the first round Tuesday. Four spots in the tournament have already been settled. Wright State will be the top seed in the tournament and will host second round and semifinal action. Butler is the #2 seed, Loyola the #3 seed and Cleveland State the #9 seed. UWM's game at UW-Green Bay tips off at 7 p.m. CST Saturday and can be seen live in Milwaukee on WMLW.
