Milwaukee 87, Butler 71
March 8, 2006
Milwaukee Coach Rob Jeter On the win "This is a team effort. We faced some adversity when Joah went down (with four fouls). We went deep in our bench and called on our guys. I've been saying it all year, I've got confidence in our guys when you put them in there." On the seven seniors getting back to the tournament "This group of seniors has persevered through a lot. Having won conference over the last three to four years, then to have to accept a new coach and a new style after the success of last season, it was scary for them. I just tried to come in and just tried to fit in. I wasn't going to bend on some things and, these guys laugh about it, but I just wanted to fit in because I knew this group was so tight and I didn't want to disrupt that." Senior Joah Tucker On his team still playing well after he went out with fouls "I think that's where senior leadership kicks in with seven seniors. AT and I don't say much before the game. We've been doing this awhile, been teammates for a while. We know what we expect from each other. So, there's not much to be said. We just come in and do our job." Senior Adrian Tigert On how they got the win "We shot great from the free throw line. A lot of second-chance points. We had a lot of layups late in the game. They threw some pressure at us and we got a lot of layups there. I think we just capitalized on the opportunities we were given. Seven seniors played like they should. If you look at the stat sheet, seven guys that have been there before played like they should've." Butler Coach Todd Lickliter On the game "I'm really proud of our team. I thought we played at a very high level against a very good team. I'm very impressed with Milwaukee. They were very good tonight and I'm impressed with what they've done. Their crowd was terrific, the environment was good. It was tough. They answered, we made a run and they answered. We would have had to play almost flawless."
On UWM's effectiveness on offense "Eighty-seven points is a lot of points, I think, to score on our team. Our team has guarded and played some good people and they have not scored like that. My hat goes off to Milwaukee. I'm impressed with them, they're a very good team and I wish them the best of luck in the tournament. I hope they make another run." On his team's chances of playing in the NIT "I do not think our team is done. I would hope that we have strong consideration for the post-season. I want to stay with (this team). I enjoy coaching them and being around them." Junior Brandon Crone On the loss "It's really disappointing, it's what you play for and work for all summer. It's what you practice for everyday. I don't know what happened, we gave it our all. It's killing me." Senior Avery Sheets On the play of Milwaukee "We were in the same situation my freshman year. We came here and they played unbelievable. We didn't play well and they played very well. I think it even the same spread. They really hit the glass and didn't miss very much, either. They're a good team and they've been a good team all year. I wish them the best in the NCAA Tournament." |
