UIC 83, UWM 77Feb. 28, 2007
UWM head coach Rob Jeter on the loss "When I look at a stat sheet and I see three of my guys in double figures, I usually feel pretty good about it. Tonight's it's a lot different from that. Twenty-one assists and 10 turnovers, I would usually feel great about that. But I'm not feeling as good about that tonight. It just didn't produce the one stat that matters, and that's a win or loss. Coming into the game, we knew the capabilities of the guard play and we knew the capabilities of the inside play. We knew we could only allow one, not both, to take place, and enough of both happened." Jeter on his team's effort in the game "The one thing I am proud of, for the entire year, all we did was fight to the end and battle until they told us we couldn't play any more. Although we made mistakes, I thought we did it with some aggressiveness. Now, we just have to get back to developing better habits. That's where this team is at. The effort is there, but the execution is slightly sloppy at times. But now the good habits, which will lead to the execution, are what we need to get to." Jeter on matching up with UIC "We're small. We're a small team and you can't hide that. If UIC doesn't get to a position, it doesn't matter as much because they have a 6-11 guy (Scott Vandermeer) who can make up for that. He does a very good job of altering and taking away things. They have the toughest player in the league in (Othyus) Jeffers. Then you take a look at their guard play, and when their guard play gets going, it's a tough combination." Jeter on letting the first-half lead get away "When you look at us, we started off shooting the ball well and I thought the extra pass is what we really wanted to get done. I thought we got away from that a little bit in the middle part of the first half. We settled for a couple of shots there instead of making the extra pass. So, instead of coming into the half up by two, we were hoping to have a little more cushion than that and be in a little better position based on how we started the game."
