GREEN BAY, Wis. - UW-Green Bay held UWM scoreless for nearly four minutes down the stretch and limited the Panthers to just 29 percent shooting in the game to claim a 53-49 victory Saturday night at the Brown County Arena.

The Phoenix built a six-point lead midway through the second half on the strength of a 7-0 run, then expanded the advantage to 47-39 with 6:09 remaining. The Panthers responded, scoring eight straight to tie the game. The run was highlighted by a pair of three-point baskets, including a Kalombo Kadima three following a James Wright blocked shot on the defensive end. But, the Panthers would record only a late Ronnie Jones jumper from there.

UWM made just 7-of-30 three-point attempts.

"I thought they were some pretty good looks," Panther coach Bo Ryan said. "When we do hit them at a normal percentage, it's not a game. But their defense had something to do with that. A lot of those same threes we stared down and knocked down on the west coast."

UWM overcame cold shooting to build a 25-22 halftime advantage. Despite shooting just 31 percent in the first 20 minutes, the Panthers led by as many as six. The Phoenix used an 11-0 run to gain an early 11-6 edge, but UWM scored 19 of the next 28 points to grab a 25-20 lead just before the break.

The Panthers return to action Thursday night, traveling south for a match-up with Illinois-Chicago. Tipoff at the UIC Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.
