Hetebrueg earns the honor for the second-straight season after moving into a role as a weekend starter for UWM this year, going 6-7 in a team and league-high 15 starts. His six victories tied for third in the league and he set career-highs with 86.1 innings pitched (fifth in league) and 50 strikeouts (eighth). He adds to his academic honors this season, as he was also named Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for May, honored as league scholar-athlete of the week on two occasions and named to the 2008 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll. Hetebrueg is a marketing major and carries a 3.79 GPA in the classroom.

Gerhartz made an immediate impact in his first season at UWM, earning First Team All-Horizon League honors as a utility player. He batted .288 on the season, scoring 43 runs and driving in 13. In league play, he batted .304, scoring 22 runs in 21 games. Gerhartz approached the school record by getting hit by 23 pitches, finishing eighth in the NCAA and first in the Horizon League. He started 41 times in 45 games played on the season after missing 10 contests in March with an injury, with his 15 stolen bases placing third in the league. He was also named to the 2008 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll earlier this week. He carries a 3.29 GPA as a business major.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
