MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee second baseman Scott Gillitzer has been drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 22nd round of the 2001 First Year Player Draft.

Gillitzer led the Panthers in hitting with a .424 average and was second on the team with 10 home runs and 66 RBI. He set a single-season school records with 97 hits and also recorded 33 multi-hit games and a 22-game hitting streak. Playing at UWM for two years after transferring from Madison Area Technical College, Gillitzer finished his career fifth on the school's all-time hits list with 157. Gillitzer is also in the top 10 all-time in batting average, runs, RBI, home runs, and doubles.

Gillitzer had a stellar NCAA regional at the plate, recording six hits in eight at bats, including a three-run home run off Notre Dame's Aaron Heilman, a first-round draft pick.

The Panthers won a school-record 39 games this season, winning the regular season and post-season Midwestern Collegiate Conference championships. UWM also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time.
