Creighton Takes Two From Panthers
March 9, 1999 MILWAUKEE - - The offense stayed consistent, the pitching improved, but the defense committed eight errors in two losses at Creighton. After losing to the Bluejays, 9-8 in eight innings and 7-4, the Panthers fell to 0-7 on the season. A scheduled third game in the series was cancelled due to cold temperatures. In the first game, UWM led, 8-2 in the fifth inning, but the Jays scored the game's final seven runs. Chad Sadowski (Cudahy, Wis.-Cudahy) went 1-for-4 with a team-best two RBIs. Sadowski improved his team-best batting average to .480 on the season and his slugging percentage to .840. Brett Huebner (Waukesha, Wis.-Wisconsin Lutheran/Austin Peay) went 2-for-4 in the game. Andy Neary (Oconomowoc, Wis.-Oconomowoc) (0-3) picked up the loss, despite throwing a complete game and yielding five earned runs. In game two, Huebner, Sadowski and Steve Tylke (Greenfield, Wis.-Greenfield/Coastal Carolina) each recorded two hits, but Creighton took the lead for good with three runs in their half of the third inning to seal the win. Sadowski pitched five innings and gave up five earned runs and seven hits, but picked up his second loss of the season.
Next up for UWM is the spring trip to Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Illinois. The Panthers will play 10 games in nine days.
