May 28, 1999
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The UWM baseball team defeated Rice, ranked No. 1 in the nation in two national polls, 8-4, in both teams' first game in the NCAA Baseball Regional Tournament. The Panthers, who are making their first-ever appearance in the tournament, shook off first-inning jitters and held the Owls scoreless in the last eight innings. Junior pitcher Chad Sadowski pitched a complete game for UWM, allowing just two earned runs, walking four and striking out six. At the plate, he was 3-5 with a pair of RBIs. Junior rightfielder Brett Huebner went 4-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles to spark the Panther offense.
UWM (31-27) plays the winner of the Rutgers-Texas Tech game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
