MILWAUKEE - UWM used a pair of late-inning rallies to sweep a doubleheader from Butler Saturday afternoon, 7-0 and 3-2, giving the Panthers the outright Midwestern Collegiate Conference regular season title and a school record for victories.

UWM has now won 35 games, besting the record of 33 set in 1998. UWM has also won 16 MCC games, two better than the previous record of 14 set in 1998. Also, the game one win was the 200th career win for head coach Jerry Augustine.

In game one, the Panthers scored all seven of their runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Eric Goerdt. Goerdt also grabbed the win on the mound, tossing a complete-game five-hitter.

In game two, the Panthers trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning when Darin Haugom doubled and Scott Gillitzer homered to right to tie the game.

In the top of the eighth with the go-ahead run at third, Matt Houk made a diving stab of a Tim Marks ground ball, throwing Marks out at first and keeping the runner at third. Jason Crawford then struck out Tony Stay looking to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Mike Oiler singled with one out before Crawford doubled to the gap in right center, scoring Oiler easily and ending the game.

UWM is now a perfect 12-0 at Henry Aaron Field, and closes out the regular season tomorrow afternoon with a single game against Butler at noon. The Panthers will be the top seed in next week's MCC Tournament, and will open tournament play Thursday morning at 11 a.m. against the sixth seed, which will be either Detroit or Cleveland State.
