FAIRBORN, Ohio - UWM scored seven times in the first inning en route to an easy 19-2 victory and a doubleheader split with Wright State Saturday afternoon. The Panthers dropped the first game, 6-5, in eight innings.

The split leaves the Panthers two-and-a-half games ahead of second place UIC and three games ahead of Wright State in the MCC.

In game two, Aaron Bushong (3-1) tossed the first complete game of his career, allowing just one earned run on eight hits.

Scott Gillitzer walked with two outs in the first, and the next eight batters reached base safely as UWM brought 12 batters to the plate. The Panthers (28-15, 12-3 MCC) added three more runs in the second - two on a single by Jason Crawford - and pushed across single runs in the third and sixth before closing the scoring with seven more runs in the seventh.

Steve Guden went 4-for-4 for the second time in the series, and Gillitzer had two hits to extend his school-record hitting streak to 20 games.

In game one, Jim Morris drove in Lance Links with a one-out double in the eighth inning to give Wright State a 6-5 win.

Links singled off reliever Matt Freisleben (2-3) to start the eighth, and after he was sacrificed to second, Andrew Theado reached when first baseman Mike Oiler came off the bag receiving a throw on a ground ball to shortstop. Morris then drove one to the gap in right center to win the game.

UWM forced extra innings by scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh. In the sixth, pinch hitter Shane Davis drove in a run with a ground ball, and in the seventh Eric Goerdt brought home the tying run with a two-out single.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage with two runs in the third and an Oiler solo home run in the fourth. But, Wright State scored five times in the fourth inning as the first six batters reached safely off Panther starter Goerdt.

Sunday's series finale begins at noon CDT.
