Andy Neary Shuts Down Titans
May 5, 2000 Milwaukee - Andy Neary pitched a complete game as the UWM baseball team defeated Detroit, 5-3, in a Midwestern Collegiate Conference game on Friday at Henry Aaron Field. The Panthers improve to 21-20 (7-4 MCC). The Titans fell to 14-19, (4-8 MCC) Neary pitched nine innings as he improved to 7-3 on the season. He allowed three earned runs, struck out seven batters and walked one. The Panthers jumped on the scoreboard first when they scored a single run in the third inning. Chad Sadowski singled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a Steve Tylke single. The Panthers scored another run in the fifth. J.J. Kotarak walked to lead off the inning. He stole second base, and then took third and home on two balks by Detroit starter Joe DeLisle. The Titans scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Mike Daguanno led off the inning with a triple down the right field line and scored on Chris Karney's double down the left field line. Karney scored on a Roger Wechter single. UWM countered by scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame. Eric Goerdt reached base when he was hit by a pitch. He reached third on Brett Huebner's double and Todd Ludwig recahed base when he was intentionally walked. All three runners scored on RBIs by Kotarak, Chad Sadowski and Matt Houk.
Darin Haugom, drew a walk in the fifth inning and then stole second base, giving him the UWM career record in that category with 50.
The same two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon. |
