MILWAUKEE - Steve Guden and Jeff Pitrof each had two-run doubles as part of a six-run seventh inning as UWM beat Detroit, 7-4, in the opener of a four-game Horizon League series at Henry Aaron Field Friday night.

Matt Freisleben recorded the final out on just one pitch to collect his 10th save, tying a school record. Geoff Lefeber (2-0) worked the first 8 2/3 innings, allowing just six hits while striking out a career-high nine in recording the win.

Omar Diaz allowed just three hits in working the first six innings for Detroit (10-25, 2-9 Horizon), but Jason Lukasic (1-1) gave up four runs in just one-third of an inning to take the loss for the Titans. Titan pitchers allowed just five hits to UWM but the Panthers took advantage of 10 walks.

The Panthers (22-14, 9-4 Horizon) have now won 18 of their last 22 games and have a season-high seven game winning streak. Detroit has lost eight-straight league games and 13 straight times to UWM.

In the decisive seventh inning, pinch-hitter David Michna opened with a walk. Troy Doering also walked before Adam Christ reached on an error. After John Vanden Berg popped out, Dave Pudlosky drove in the go-ahead run with a walk. Doering then scored on a wild pitch before Guden drove in two more with a double down the left field line. Pitrof then followed an out and another walk with a double into the gap in left center to bring home two more runs.

Pitrof also drove home UWM's other run with a double in the second.

Tim Andrzejak had three hits and two runs scored for the Titans, while Mike Malley drove in two runs for Detroit with a single in the ninth.

The series continues Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
