CHICAGO - The UWM baseball team suffered its first two losses in MCC play, dropping a doubleheader to Illinois-Chicago, 9-6 and 7-0.

The Panthers (23-13, 9-2 MCC) had won their first nine conference, and had equaled a school record with nine straight wins overall entering play Saturday.

In game one, UIC (23-24, 10-5 MCC) jumped on starter Eric Goerdt (3-1) for four runs in the second inning and was never seriously threatened. Trailing 9-2 entering the seventh, UWM scored four times, including back-to-back homers from Jason Crawford and Matt Houk. But, Derek Daggett popped out to end the game.

In the nightcap, Flames starter Nick Worm shutout the Panthers for the first time this season. Worm allowed just four hits and walked only one batter. UWM starter Rob Erickson allowed all seven runs in two-plus innings.

The four-game series concludes Sunday at noon with a single game.
