CHICAGO - The UWM baseball team scored four times in the third inning and five more times in the fourth en route to a 15-4 win over Illinois-Chicago in the first game of a four-game series Friday night at Les Miller Field on the UIC campus.

The win moved the Panthers to 9-0 in the MCC, extending the school record for best start ever in league play. The win was also UWM's ninth straight overall, equaling a school record set earlier this season.

UWM jumped on UIC (21-24, 8-5 MCC) early, scoring twice in the first. The Panthers added a single run in the second before exploding in the third and fourth to put the game away.

Jason Crawford went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Panthers. Crawford and Steve Guden had key, two-out hits in the third, while Mike Oiler and Dave Pudlosky each had two-run hits in the fourth for UWM (23-11, 9-0 MCC).

Quintin Oldenburg worked the first seven innings to record his team-high seventh win of the season.

Wright State, which holds down second place in the MCC at 6-3, beat Detroit Friday night, staying within three games of the first-place Panthers.

UWM and UIC will play a doubleheader Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
