VALPARAISO, Ind. - The reasonably nice weather Thursday allowed the UWM baseball to take a brief detour on its way to Omaha, Neb., for a weekend series with Creighton.

Unfortunately, the detour to Valparaiso, Ind., turned into a loss.

The Crusaders scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim an 8-7 win Thursday afternoon.

UWM (13-9) scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to build a 7-4 advantage, but the Crusaders (15-12) rallied with three in the sixth and one in the eighth for the win.

Valpo scored their run in the eighth off Matt Freisleben (1-2), just the second run he has given up this season.

The Panthers return to their original weekend schedule, traveling to Omaha for a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
