Panther Baseball on a Hot Streak with Doubleheader Sweeps
April 5, 1999 MILWAUKEE -- Offense won a pair of games against UW-La Crosse and pitching won a pair at Northern Illinois as the UWM baseball team won its eighth out of nine games. The hot streak improved UWM's record to 10-14 overall.
The Panthers have one more home game before MCC play begins this weekend. UW-Parkside comes to Henry Aaron Field for a April 7 doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. UWM travels to Detroit to take on the Titans in a pair of doubleheaders this weekend.
At Northern Illinois on April 1, game one starting pitcher Chad Sadowski (Cudahy, Wis.-Cudahy) pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters and walking only one. The three runs he allowed were all unearned. UWM won the game, 15-3.
In game two, Mike Oiler pitched a gem of his own, a complete-game four hit shutout in which he struck out nine batters and walked only one. UWM won, 3-0.
In the Panthers' home opener against UW-LaCrosse, UWM spotted the Eagles a 6-0 lead, but scored eight of the next nine runs to post the 8-7 win. Matt Friesleben (Waukesha, Wis.-South) pitched the last thre innings and earned his team-leading third win of the year. Mike Oiler (Watertown, Wis.-Watertown) went 2-3 in the game including a two-run double that tied the game at six in the fifth inning.
In game two, UWM led, 5-2, after two innings and never looked back in the 13-6 win. Brian Gould (Germantown, Wis.-Germantown) pitched four innings and did not allow an earned run to pick up the win. Brett Huebner (Waukesha, Wis.-Wisconsin Lutheran/Austin Peay) went 3-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Darin Haugom (Edgerton, Wis.-Edgerton) went 2-3 with two RBIs.
