Panthers Improve to 6-13 on Strength of Four-game Winning Streak

Notre Dame, Northern Illinois road games up next; Home Opener vs. UW- La Crosse on Friday.

MILWAUKEE- The UWM baseball team, fresh off of double-header sweeps against Western Illinois and Bradley, look to keep the momentum going this week against Notre Dame and Northern Illinois. The Panthers kick off the home portion of their schedule with a April 2 game at Henry Aaron Field at Lincoln Park against UW-La Crosse. The game time is 1 p.m.

The Panthers concluded their springbreak tour through Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Illinois by splitting the final four games. Belmont handed UWM an 11-9 loss on March 18. Matt Friesleben picked up the loss - his only loss of the season to date. He pitched one inning and allowed two runs, one of them earned. Mike Oiler went 3-5 from the plate and Todd Ludwig hit his seventh home run of the season in the game.

Middle Tennessee State defeated UWM, 13-11, on Mar. 19. Mike Oiler picked up the loss after pitching the eighth inning, in which he allowed three earned runs to score. Jared Kotarak and Darrin Haugom each went 3-5, leading the UWM attack.

The Panthers swept Western Illinois, 9-4 and 21-5, to conclude the spring trip on Mar. 20. In game one, UWM scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back. Jason Crawford, Darrin Haugom and Chad Sadowski all hit home runs for the Panthers. Mike Oiler picked up the win after pitching seven innings, allowing four earned runs.

In game two, the Panthers' bats came alive; all nine starters collected at least a hit and scored at least a run. Tylke went 5-5 at the plate and Chad Sadowski went 3-4. Quintin Oldenburg was the beneficiary of the offense, picking up the win. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowed five runs, striking out three and walking two.

The Panthers posted another doubleheader sweep when they traveled to Bradley. UWM won, 12-10 and 8-2. In game won, Friesleben picked up the win by pitching the last 1.1 innings. UWM scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for the come-from-behind win. Chad Sadowski, who pitched five innings as the Panthers' starter, added a pair of doubles and a team-best four RBIs in the win.

In game two, Andy Neary pitched a complete game six-hitter, allowing one earned run. Steve Tylke went 2-4 with a pair of doubles in the game.
