UWM Cross Country Prepares for Great Lakes Region IV Championship

Panthers look for strong finish at regionals.

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 13, to compete in the Great Lakes Region IV Championships at 10 a.m.

At last year’s Great Lakes Regional, the women’s cross country team had its best finish ever, taking 13th place overall. Ann Lewis (Wausau, Wis.-Wausau East) led the women finishing 39th overall with a time of 18:36. The top finisher for the men was Matt Finger (Menomonee Falls, Wis.-Menomonee Falls) who placed 143rd overall with a time of 34:59

Last time out, the Panther men and women both placed 4th at the MCC Championships. Ryan Powell ( Marshall, Wis.- Marshall) led the men’s team with a 7th place overall finish in the 8K course with a time of 27:11.81. Brianne Peterson ( Plymouth, Wis.-Plymouth) led the women’s team with a 11th place overall finish, turning in a time of 18:50.02 on the 5k course.

The top two teams at the Great Lakes Region IV Championships receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships in Bloomington, Ind, on Nov. 22. An additional thirteen teams nationally will receive at-large bids in the NCAA Championships. Runners may also qualify on an individual basis for the NCAAs depending on finishes at the regional competitions.
