MILWAUKEE - The UWM men's and women's cross country teams got a taste of some of the best cross country teams in the country at the 28th Memorial Cross Country Classic in Ames, Iowa, Saturday.

Last Week's Team Results: The Panther men's and women's teams each competed in the `B' race. The men finished 5th and women finished 11th. But, the results are not fully reflective of team performances, because one male runner and two female runners from UWM ran in the `A' race, and their score did not count toward the Panthers' total.

Individual `A' Race Highlights: On the men's side, senior Aaron Nodolf (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) finished 133rd out of 360 runners. He finished the 10,000-meter course in 32:36.9. On the women's side, sophomore Abby Hurst (Little Chute, Wis./Little Chute) finished 183rd, running the 6,000-meter course in 23:20.8. Junior Liz Pesch (Brownsville, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) finished 241st, completing her run in 24:02.6.

Individual `B' Race Highlights: Junior Pat Harrington (West Allis, Wis./Central) was the top Panthers' runner on the men's side, crossing the finish line in 33:43.8. Junior Tricia Pozel (Racine, Wis./Case) was the top UWM women's finisher in the `B' race, completing the course in 24:13.8.

Tough Meet: The meet at Iowa State was a preview of the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Ames on Nov. 20. The meet included 16 of the nation's top 25 women's teams, and 13 of the top 25 men's teams.

Freshman Depth: As has been the case throughout the season, the Panthers continue to get strong performances from some of their youngest runners. On the women's side, freshman Alison Shattuck (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) finished 44th in the `B' race, and freshman Karen Brisky (Columbus, Wis./Columbus) finished 86th. On the men's side, freshman Andy Kivioja (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) posted a strong performance, finishing 94th in the `B' race.

Still To Come: The Panthers have two weeks to prepare for the MCC Championships in Green Bay, Wis., Oct. 28. Following the MCC Championships, the Panthers will prepare for the Great Lakes Regional Championships in November.
