The Panthers look to defend their title at the annual Briggs and Stratton Run. Sept. 20, 1999 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s and women’s cross country teams are getting ready to defend their collegiate titles for the fourth consecutive year at this weekend’s Briggs and Stratton Run. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 a.m, and will begin in downtown Milwaukee and end at the lakefront. Both the men’s and women’s teams are looking for strong performances after finishing in the top four at the Detroit-Mercy Invitational, which was the first meet of the season. Last year’s top finisher at the Briggs and Stratton for the men was Cory Peterson who finished 16th overall with a time of 26:50. The top finisher for the women’s squad was sophmore Ann Lewis (Wausau, Wis.-Wausau East) who not only finished sixth overall, and was first in the under 18 female category with a time of 31:42. Lewis looks to turn in another top performance this year. Last Time Out UWM traveled to the Detroit-Mercy Invitational, with both teams finishing in the top four. The women placed third with 90 points in a field of nine teams, while the men placed fourth with 131 points in a field of 10 teams. Next Up for the Panthers UWM will travel to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic, on Saturday, Oct.15, at 10:30 a.m. |
