MILWAUKEE (Sept. 13, 2001) - Junior Abby Hurst (Little Chute, Wis./Little Chute) has been named women's cross country Athlete of the Week today by the Horizon League for her performance at the Valparaiso Invitational on Sept. 7, 2001.

Hurst placed third overall in the race in a time of 22:39. With the top-two finishers being unattached runners, the Panthers earned first place credit towards the overall score.

Her time was also 25 seconds faster than her personal best at 6K from a year ago. Hurst ran a 22:54.0 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional last year, good for a 87th place.

The women's team finished fourth out of eight teams, while the men's team finished third in the field of seven at Valparaiso. The Panthers will next be in action on Sept. 22, 2001, when they take part in Al's Memorial Run through downtown Milwaukee.
