Cross Country Teams End Season at Great Lakes Championships
Hill and Hurst fail to qualify for NCAA Championships despite strong showings

Milwaukee -The UWM men's and women's cross country teams ended their seasons on Saturday at the Great Lakes Regional Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's team placed 19th out of 31 competing schools, while the women finished 28th out of 31. Senior Cornelius Hill paced the men's team, finishing 42nd with a time of 32:12.3 for 10K. Fellow senior Pat Harrington was the next Panther finisher, placing 76th with a time of 32:52.7. Freshman Steve Saul staked his claim as next year's top returning runner with the third-best finish on the team, coming in at 34:07.2, good for 134th place. Freshman Bryan Hassemer and junior Jeremy Dunn rounded out the Panther counting runners. Hassemer finished the course in 34:30.7, putting him in 151st place, while Dunn finished 166th with a time of 34:56.4. Junior Abby Hurst again paced the Panthers, finishing the 6K course in 22:46.5 and in 69th place. Her time was just seven seconds off her career best at 6K. Junior Katie Olander was the next UWM runner to cross, completing the course in 155th place with a time of 24:20.4. Freshman Christine Wampach finished next, coming in 169th place with a time of 24:48.0. Freshman Natalie Tofte and sophomore Alison Shattuck rounded out the Panther scorers, completing the course in 177th and 178th places. Tofte finished in 25:06.6, while Shattuck crossed almost nine seconds later at 25:15.0. |
