One-Two Punch For The Panther Runners
Hill and Harrington finish 1-2 to lead men's team to second place at Parkside Invitational
Oct. 13, 2001
MILWAUKEE (Oct. 13, 2001) - Seniors Cornelius Hill and Pat Harrington finished first and second at the Parkside Invitational to lead the Panthers to a second place finish among men's Division I schools. Hill took the first team place, finishing the muddy Parkside course in 25:51 for 8K. Harrington finished soon after, taking the second team placing in 26:14. On a rainy, foggy day, the two Milwaukee-area runners took command on a course they each had run numerous times before. Head coach Pete Corfeld said he was happy with the entire team's performance. "It was a sloppy, muddy course," Corfeld said. "I was pleased with how they ran, given the conditions." Also stepping up for the men's team was freshman Nick Bruskewitz, who ran in place of another freshman, Steve Saul, who had been the team's most consistent number three runner. "I wanted to give Saul a rest so he wouldn't be burned out for the Horizon League Championships," Corfeld said. "Nick stepped in and ran a really nice race." Finishing third for the men's team was junior Jeremy Dunn, who placed 17th overall in the Division I race with a time of 27:53. Fellow junior Andy Kivioja was the fourth Panther runner, coming in 19th place in 27:57. Bruskewitz was the fifth and final counting runner for Milwaukee, finishing in 28:07, good for 27th place. In the women's race, junior Abby Hurst continued her solid season, taking the second team place in guiding the Panthers to sixth place among Division I schools. Hurst finished with a time of 18:51 on the 5K course. A pair of juniors were the next two Panther runners to finish, as Katie Olander finished in 20:36, good for 37th place. She was followed by Brianne Peterson, who ran 20:39 and finished one spot behind Olander. Rounding out the Panther runners were Alison Shattuck and Natalie Tofte. Shattuck ran the course in 20:50 and finished in 42nd place. Tofte completed the race in 46th place, posting a time of 21:02. Both teams are off until Oct. 27, when they will compete for league honors in the Horizon League Championships in Chicago. |
