Panther Runners Run For Charity
Cross country teams participate in Al's Memorial Run

MILWAUKEE - The UWM cross country teams participated in Al's Memorial Run through downtown Milwaukee on Sat., Sept. 22. Several Panthers had good showings on the 8K road course. Senior Pat Harrington finished eighth overall as the men's team successfully defended their collegiate division crown. Harrington's time of 25:34 was his best of the season so far at 8K. He was followed by fellow senior Cornelius Hill, who finished in a time of 26:09. Freshmen Bryan Hassemer and Steve Saul joined junior Andy Kivioja to finish in a pack to round out the Panther runners. Hassemer finished the course in 26:50, while Saul came in a second later. Kivioja crossed the finish line in 26:58. On the women's side, junior Abby Hurst was the third overall women's finisher, placing 102nd overall. Her time on the course was 29:50. Hurst was also the top finisher in the 19-24 age division. Also running well for the women was junior Brianne Peterson. Peterson finished tenth among women, placing 169th overall. Her time was 32:02. The rest of the Panther runners finished soon after Peterson. Junior Katie Olander crossed the finish line in 32:12, while sophomore Karen Brisky finished in 32:45 and freshman Natalie Tofte finished in 32:48. The women's team placed fourth overall in the collegiate division. The UWM cross country teams will be in action again next Sat., Sept. 29. The men will be in Kalamazoo, Mich., to compete in the Central Collegiate Championships, while the women will run in the Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. |
