Six Panthers Win Events At Marquette
UWM gets set for weekend at Drake and UIC.

MILWAUKEE -- Junior Jon Manke (Green Bay, Wis.) used a season-best throw of 164'10.00" in the discus to take first and pace a Panther squad that took six first-place finishes, and 10 top-three finishes overall at the Marquette Invite on Friday. Also taking first place were freshmen Nick Davis (Racine, Wis.), Kyle Huebner (Sun Prairie, Wis.), and Kalin Konop (Brillion, Wis./Mantiwoc Roncalli), sophomore Lynda Thiel (DePere, Wis.), and senior Kenya Moore (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood). Thiel won the women's pole vault (10'00.00") and also took second in the high jump (5'00.00"). Huebner won the men's pole vault with a jump of 13'06.00". Konop set a personal-best in the triple jump (35'05.00") to edge out second-place teammate freshman Alison Schnelle (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) (34'08.50"). Rounding out the top-finishers for UWM were Davis' high jump of 6"04.00" and Moore's 17'08.75" long jump. Freshmen Adam Hobler (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) (49.80) and Justin Hoerth (DePere, Wis./East DePere) (11.24) each used personal-best times to take third in the 400m and 100m, respectively. Also setting a personal-best was senior Anna Schmalfeldt (Silver Lake, Wis./Pius XI) in the 800m with a time of 2:25.00. KANSAS RELAYS ROUND-UP... ...Highlighting UWM's performance at the Kansas Relays were senior Aaron Nodolf (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) and sophomore Kristy Naef's (Butler, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) second place finishes. Nodolf took second in the 8,000m (14:56.06), and Naef in the heptathlon (4,810). Sophomore Stephanie Kenesie (Bristol, Wis./Kenosha St. Joseph) took eighth in the heptathlon (4,282). Sophomore Abby Hurst (Little Chute, Wis./Little Chute) took fourth with a strong showing in the 8,000m. Her time of 18:25.78 set a new personal best. In the relay portion of the meet, UWM's 4x200m relay team took third place with a time of 1:41.85 and the 4x100m relay ran a season-best time of 47.61 in its race. The men's 4x800m took 11th place in the field of 23 with a time of 7:43.08. In the distance medley, the men's team finished in 10:25.31, while the women finished in 12:36.79. UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS... ...UWM hits the road for meets in Des Moines, Iowa, and Chicago, Ill. In Iowa, the Panthers will participate at the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday. In the place of the previously-scheduled Purdue Invitational, the Panthers will be in action at the UIC Invite in Chicago on Saturday. Running for the Panthers in Iowa on Thursday will be Hurst and Nodolf in the 10k. Also on Thursday will be the preliminaries and final for the 4x200 relay, which will feature Naef, Nicole Wee (Soldiers Grove, Wis./North Crawford), Nicole Frey (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie), and Andrea Thibadeau (Green Bay, Wis./East). Friday will feature the preliminaries for the mile relay, with UWM's team consisting of Naef, Wee, Kenesie, and Thibadeau. Finals for that event will be on Saturday, but if UWM fails to qualify for the finals, they will join Thursday and Friday's other participants and the rest of the Panther squad in Chicago on Saturday. |
