UWM Track & Field Team Heads to Calhoun Invite

UWM looks for another strong finish at Western Illinois this weekend.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee mens and womens track and field teams hope to continue finishing at the top of the field this weekend when they travel to Macomb, Ill., to compete in Western Illinois 10th Annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational. The invite, named in honor of Olympic gold medal winner in the high hurdles and former WIU Leatherneck Lee Quency Calhoun, will be held today through Saturday, April 8-10, with competition beginning at 10 a.m. each day.

Key Panthers traveling to the invite this weekend are: Bert Rogers (Janesville, Wis.-Parker), who took third last weekend in the 200 meter (23.14), will compete in the 400 meter; Kevin Kriegel (Menomonee Falls, Wis.-Menomonee Falls), who finished third last weekend in the 5,000 meter (15:18.10), will compete in the 3,000 meter; and Nate Knudson (Medford, Wis.-Medford), who finished in second place in the 10,000 meter (32:50.23), will run the 1,500 and the 5,000.

Making the trip on the womens side are: Ann Lewis (Wausau, Wis.-East), who took first last weekend in the 10,000 meter (40:04.68), will compete in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters; and Emily Hauer (Whitefish Bay, Wis.-Dominican), who finished fourth in both the 1,500 meter (4:48.50) and 3,000 meter (10:24.97) last weekend, will compete in the 5,000 meter this weekend.

UWM gives another strong performance at Big Blue

At Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic last weekend, the Panthers turned in another solid performance, with the men finishing in third defeating this weekends Calhoun Invite host Western Illinois, as well as Bradley, and the women finishing in fifth place, falling one place behind the Western Illinois women who finished in fourth.

Several key athletes led the men to their third-place finish, including: Bert Rogers (Janesville, Wis.-Parker) who took third in the 200 meter (23.14), Kevin Kriegel (Menomonee Falls, Wis.-Menomonee Falls) who finished third in the 5,000 meter (15:18.10), and Nate Knudson (Medford, Wis.-Medford) who finished in second place in the 10,000 meter (32:50.23).
