Pair of top distance runners travel to Raleigh Relays in N.C. March 24, 1999
MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams begin their outdoor season this weekend when they travel to Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the Purdue Open held at the Rankin Track and Field. While most of the team will compete in the Purdue Invitational, a pair of UWM's top distance runners will travel to the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
The Purdue Open, which is held on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27, will give the Panthers their first chance to compete in the 1999 outdoor season. Key athletes from the Panther squad traveling to Purdue this weekend include several of this years MCC champions and runner-ups:

The 1999 Purdue Open, considered one of the best regional meets to start the outdoor season, will feature 12 of the regions top teams, including along with UW-Milwaukee and Purdue: Bradley, College of DuPage, Eastern Michigan, Loyola of Chicago, Marquette University, Dayton, Iowa, Notre Dame, Valparaiso and Western Michigan. Results are will be available approximately 20 minutes after the last race of each day of competition at Purdues athletics web site: www.purduesports.com
Pair of Panthers travel to Raleigh Relays UWM also will send a pair of athletes this weekend to the Raleigh Relays hosted by the North Carolina State University. The Panthers will send its two top distance competitors to the Relays, senior Cory Peterson (5-10, Ogdensburg, Wis., Little Wolf HS), who will compete in the 10,000m, and Emily Hauer (5-6, Milwaukee, Wis., Dominican HS), who will compete in the 1,500m. The pair hope to turn in early NCAA qualifying times in this meet, long considered one of the nations premiere distance events.
The meet, held at the Paul Derr Track on the NC State campus, begins Friday at 11 a.m. and continues through Saturday afternoon. Results will be available after the last event on each competition day at NCSU's athletics web-site: www.athletics.ncsu.edu/raleighrelays |
