MILWAUKEE - The Panthers will compete with the nation's best track and field teams as they travel to Ames, Iowa and take part in the Cyclone Invitational Friday and Saturday. Iowa State hosts UWM, as well as teams from the Big 10 and the Big 12, and will have about 70 universities represented.

"We've always had a good history at Iowa State's meet," UWM coach Pete Corfeld. "Just because of the size of the meet, we'll expect good competition in all areas."

Individuals have faired well for UWM in their previous three meets, but the team has limited time left before the league championships on Feb. 24.

"Besides our hosted meet next week, we'll need to show well before the Horizon League Championship," Corfeld said.

Last week, several Panthers finished in second place in their events to highlight UWM. Abby Hurst took second in both the mile and the 1,000m, running 5:06.84 in the mile and 3:02.97 in the 1,000. Christine Wampach finished second in the 3,000m, while Stephanie Kenesie took second in the long jump with a leap of 18-7 3/4. On the men's side, Ken Hunt finished second in the triple jump with a measurement of 48-4 1/2. Cornelius Hill also grabbed a second-place finish, running 2:29.40 in the 1,000m, to round out the second-place finishers.

Following the Cyclone Invitational this weekend, UWM will host Marquette, UIC and Loyola next weekend at the Klotsche Center. Events will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15.
