UWM Double-Dual Invitational begins at 4:30 p.m. January 20, 1999
MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's indoor track and field teams open their seasons at home on Friday, Jan. 22, with the UWM Double-Dual Invitational. The meet will be held in the Klotsche Center beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Who's Who
The Panthers will play host on Friday night to Western Illinois, Detroit, Marquette, Chicago State, Bradley, Illinois-Chicago and DePaul, as well as many individual participants.
The Panthers will be led in the 55 MH and the long jump by junior Paul McGinley (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), a 1997 MCC Champion; in the 800M by junior Matt Finger (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), UWM's indoor record holder in the mile at 4:10.94; and in the shot put by sophomore Jon Manke (Oneida, Wis.), who set a new UWM outdoor record in the discus as a freshman.
On the women's side, the Panthers are led in the 400M by senior Emily Burrow (Reedsburg, Wis.), an MCC champion; in the 3,000M by senior Emily Hauer (Whitefish Bay, Wis.), also an MCC Champion; and in the triple jump and long jump by junior-transfer Kenya Moore (Shorewood, Wis.), who earned NCAA Division III All-America honors at UW-Oshkosh.
The invitational will also boast some of the nation's top athletes, including former UWM runner Cory Peterson, who will compete in the mile and is an Olympic trials qualifier; Steve Travis, who will also compete in the mile and is a member of the Milwaukee Track Club; former DePaul runner Dave Dopek, who will compete in the 200M and is a U.S. Indoor 200M Champion; Kris Ihle, who will run in the 3,000M and was a member of the 1998 U.S. Cross Country Team which competed in the World Championship; Lynn Fitzsimmons, who will compete in the 800M and the mile and who has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials; Jenny Crain, who will also compete in the 800M and the mile and is the Klotsche Center record holder in the 5,000M with a time of 16:10; and Mary Ellen Hill, a runner from Bradley University who earned All-America honors in both cross country and the 5,000M, who will run the 3,000M.
