Track and field athletes finish strong at Drake Relays and Boilermaker Open, while freshman qualifies for the USATF Junior National Championships.

MILWAUKEE - Members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams traveled last weekend to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Boilermaker Open in Layfette, Ind. A pair of Panthers traveled to the Drake Relays last weekend, while the rest of the Panther squad traveled to the Boilermaker Open at Purdue University.

The team's highest individual finisher at the Boilermaker Open was freshman Ann Lewis (Wausau, Wis.-East), who's second-place finish in the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:28.59 also qualified her for the USATF Junior National Championships to be held this summer, June 19-20, in Richmond, Va.

Also finishing strong individually at the Boilermaker Open was senior Shawn Burrow (Reedsburg, Wis.-Janesville Parker), who marked a third-place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 58.75.

On the mens side at the Boilermaker Open, senior Bert Rogers (Janesville, Wis.-Parker) topped the Panthers with a third-place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 49.53

At the Drake Relays, Nate Knudson (Medford, Wis.-Medford) finished in 20th place with a personal-best time of 32:01.92 in the 5,000 meters, while Kevin Kriegel (Menomonee Falls, Wis.-Menomonee Falls) finished 14th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:32.65.
