The Panthers wrap up another weekend of competition with strong finishes at Western Illinois. April 15, 1999 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukees Track and Field team traveled to Western Illinois on April 9-10 to compete in the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational. The men finished 4th defeating Iowa, Chicago State, UIC, UW-LaCrosse, and Parkland College, while the women finished 5th defeating Chicago State, Bradley, and UIC. Leading the way for the men was Kevin Kriegel (Menomonee Falls, Wis.- Menomonee Falls) who finished first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:33.58). Bert Rogers (Janesville, Wis.-Parker) also helped the Panthers to fifth place by finishing second in the 400 meter (50.31). Paul McGinley (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.-Wisconsin Rapids) helped guide the Panthers with his second-place finish in the javelin (53.32m or 17411"). On the womens side: Shawn Burrow (Reedsburg, Wis.-Janesville Parker) took first in the 400 meter (57.00) which helped lead the Panthers to fifth place. Also playing a key role in the Panthers fifth-place finish was Emily Hauer (Whitefish Bay, Wis.-Dominican) who finished second in the 5,000 meter with a time of 18:13.27.
