MONMOUTH, Ill. - The UWM track teams competed at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational on Saturday, with the women's team coming home with a second-place finish, scoring 175.5 points. The Panther men took third on the day with 97 points, as both teams had several individual champions. In addition, many individual personal records fell, thanks in part to the near-ideal weather conditions.

Stephanie Kenesie once again led the women's team with several strong performances. Kenesie took the title in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.20 and triple jump with a leap of 36'11 3/4" and added a fifth-place finish in the javelin and a sixth in the high jump. Kenesie cleared 5'2" in the high jump, tying a personal best, and threw the javelin 98'11". Kenesie was joined in placing in the high jump by Lynda Thiel, who placed fourth with a personal best of 5'4 1/4". In the javelin, Thiel took third with a throw of 105', followed by Kristy Naef with a throw of 101'8".

Naef and Thiel also had other strong showings. Thiel won the pole vault, vaulting 10'. Naef added a victory in the 100m dash with a run of 12.32. She was followed by Nicole Frey, who took second with a time of 12.59. Sara Vanderloop finished seventh in the event with a time of 13.52. Naef, Frey and Kenesie also combined to place second, third and fourth in the 200m, as Naef had a time of 25.52, while Frey came across at 25.77 and Kenesie at 26.22.

Several other Panther women had a good day at the meet. Jill Naus took second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.40. In the long jump, UWM had a pair of top-eight finishers, as Michelle Fritsch finished fourth with a leap of 16'5 3/4" and Kalin Konop finished fifth with a leap of 15'11". Konop would add a fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 34'11 1/4", while Fritsch added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a personal record 8'6". Katie Seep took second in the 400m dash with a run of 57.34, followed by Teresa Braunreiter in fourth with a time of 59.81. In the 1,500m run, Abby Hurst took second with a time of 4:41.65. Alison Shattuck finished fourth in the 5,000m with a time of 19:01.75, while Katie Olander added an eighth-place finish in 19:37.89. In addition, the Panthers women won both relays contested at the meet, winning the 4x100m in a time of 47.61 and the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:56.14.

For the men, Kyle Huebner took home two top-eight finishes, one in the pole vault and one in the javelin. Hueber finished second in the pole vault with vault of 15', tying a personal record, and third in the javelin with a throw of 155'4". Cornelius Hill captured the only victory on the men's side, winning the 1,500m with a time of 3:53.54. Ken Hunt also captured a victory in the triple jump with his leap of 49'11 3/4".

Several other Panthers turned in top-eight performances. Hunt took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21'4 1/4". Adam Hobler claimed a fourth-place finish in the 200m in 22.67 and in the 400m with a time of 49.47, while Eric Gresham took fifth in the same event with a time of 49.67. Dan O'Leary pitched-in with a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.05. Pat Harrington added a third-place finish in the 5,000m with a time of 15:23.73. In the weight throws, Jon Manke finished sixth in the hammer, setting a personal record with a throw of 151'8", while Alex Mueller finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 135'6". The UWM 4x400m relay team added a second-place finish with a time of 3:19.26.

Western Illinois took home the team title on both the men's and women's sides, while Eastern Illinois placed second in the men's meet.

The Panther track teams return to action next week when the team splits up to compete in two different meets. Some Panthers will head to Lawrence, Kan., where they will run in the Kansas Relays, while the rest of the team travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to run in the Indiana State Invitational.
