Two Panther Swimmers Honored By MCC
Kedinger and Schmaling honored as athletes of the week
Dec. 8, 2000 MILWAUKEE - UWM freshman Jen Kedinger and sophomore Matt Schmaling have been honored as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference swimmers of the week. Jen Kedinger set two UWM school records in two days at the Wheaton Invitational while tallying 52 points for the Panthers. Kedinger broke the 500 and 1650 freestyle records in 5:09.79 and 17:41.69, respectively. Both times now rank first in the MCC. In the overall meet, she finished second in the 500 free, first in the 1650 and fourth in the 200 free. The Panther women placed second in the meet with 861 points, only three points behind the winning host team. Matt Schmaling recorded two individual first place finishes at Wheaton and helped the Panthers to two relay victories. Schmaling won the 100 and 200 freestyles and swam a leg in the 400 and 800 free relays. He also placed second in the 50 free. Overall, he earned 57 points for UWM, which finished second in the meet with 760.50 points. The 400 free relay set a meet and pool record in a time of 3:06.18. The Panthers return to action Dec. 31 at the Ed Kennedy Trials in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Both teams sit at 4-3 so far this season. |
