Men Take Second at Wheaton
UWM places five swimmers in top ten scoring leaders in the meet.
Dec. 7, 2000 MILWAUKEE - The men's swimming team finished second at the Wheaton Invitational with 760.50 points. Lead by a strong performance of young talent, the Panthers earned eight first place finishes and a handful of seconds. Sophomores Matt Schmaling (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), Peter Clark (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay), David Faust (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), junior Adam Hanson (Verona, Wis./Verona), and freshman Josh Baseheart (Milwaukee, Wis./King) each contributed over forty individual points to the Panthers' score. The five swimmers were all listed in the top ten point scorers in the meet. Schmaling finished second in the 50 free, first in the 100 and 200 free, and helped the Panthers to two victorious relays. Clark took third in the 200 free, first in the 500 free and 200 fly, and swam in two relay victories. Faust placed second behind Clark in the 500 free, grabbed first in the 1650 free, and helped the Panthers to a victory in the 800 free relay. Hanson placed third in both the 200 fly and 400 IM and also swam a leg of the fourth place 200 medley relay. Baseheart finished fifth in the 100 free, second in the 100 fly, and helped earn two firsts, one second and one third place finishes in the relay events. Other notable Panther performances include senior Bill Kuri's (Wauwatosa, Wis./Marquette) second place finishes in the 100 free and 100 back. Kuri also swam legs in four relays that placed from first to fourth places for the Panthers. Senior Joel White (Austin, Texas/Westwood) finished second in the 400 IM and freshman Nick Bowers (Delavan, Wis./Darien) third in the 200 breast and fifth in the 100 breast. Junior Todd Murray (Brookfield, Wis./East) finsihed fourth in the 200 breast. The Panthers are idle until Dec. 31 when they compete in the Ed Kennedy Trials in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. |
