The UWM women's swimming team finished only three points behind the first place host at the Wheaton Invitational with 861 points. In the meet overall, two UWM freshmen set two records apiece and yet another freshman set a freshman record.

Jen Kedinger (Fond du Lac, Wis./Goodrich) set new heights for UWM swimming after her weekend away from home as she paced the 1650 free in 17:41.69 en route to a UWM school record. Kedinger also swam the 500 free in a record-setting time of 5:09.79. Kristin Cefalu (Janesville, Wis./Milton) came home with both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes freshman records in times of 1:07.91 and 2:25.64. Kari Kinney (Madison, Wis./East) claimed a UWM freshman record as well in the 400 IM in a 4:43.65 time.

In the overall meet, junior Kelly Goetsch (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) grabbed second in the 200 free and Kedinger placed first in the 1650 free and second in the 500 free. Cefalu placed fourth and third in the 100 and 200 breast events. Sophomore Beth Watt (Waukesha, Wis./West) placed third in both fly events. Kinney captured second in the 400 IM. In the relay events, the 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay teams grabbed third.

The women are idle until Dec. 31 when they compete in the Ed Kennedy trials in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
