MILWAUKEE -

UWM swimming and diving head coach Dave Clark signed his first two recruits for the 2001-2002 season, he announced today.

John Batty (Verona, Wis./Verona) added his name to the Panther roster as he signed under Clark. Batty has been a state finalist in the Wisconsin Division 2 sprints the last two years.

"John has just started to show his talent as a swimmer," Clark said. "He had a great summer and I expect he will have a great high school season. We look forward to adding his great talent to our solid sprint corps."

Julie Olson (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) became the first women's recruit. She was a backstroke and IM Minnesota AA finalist last season and finished fourth in the 100 backstroke in 2000 with an All-America consideration time.

"Julie will be a great addition to our program. Her high school time is just a half-second faster than our current school record," Clark said. "We expect that she will battle for conference backstroke titles from the start."
