Peter Clark wins four events during weekend

It was a productive weekend for the UWM swimming and diving teams. The Panthers played host to Northern Iowa and Butler on Friday, Nov. 12, at the Klotsche Center, and both the men and the women swept their opponents. On Saturday, Nov. 12, UWM traveled to Northern Illinois, where UWM split a pair of dual meet victories.

The men posted 10 first-place finishes as the team won against Northern Iowa, 147-93, and Butler, 156-72. Peter Clark (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and Todd Hill (West Bend, Wis.) led UWM with a pair of first-place finishes. Clark won the 200 free and 200 fly, while Hill swept the two diving events. Other UWM winners included Dan Babcock (Verona, Wis.) in the 200 IM, Kevin Van Den Wymelenberg (Green Bay, Wis.) in the 100 free, Bill Kuri (Wauwatosa, Wis.) in the 200 back, David Faust (Eden Prairie, Minn.) in the 500 free and the 400 free and 400 medley relays.

The women won five events against Northern Iowa and Butler as the Panthers posted a 132-104 win against Butler and a 129-113 win against Northern Iowa. UWM winners included Erin Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) in the 200 fly, Jenny Theis (Chaska, Minn.) in the 200 back, Rachel Smith (Superior, Wis.) in the 200 breast, Amanda Maas (Plymouth, Wis.) in 1-meter diving and Jamie Cyganiak (New Berlin, Wis.) in 3-meter diving.

At Northern Illinois, the men were led against by Hill and Clark. Hill swept the diving events and Clark won the 200 free and the 500 free as the Panthers posted a 134-107 victory. Matt Schmaling (New Berlin, Wis.) added a win in the 50 free, as did Van Den Wymelenberg in the 100 free and Faust in the 1000 free. The 200 free relay of Van Den Wymelenberg, Kuri, Babcok and Schmaling also won its event.

The women fell to Northern Illinois, 131-103. Erin Hallen (Middleton, Wis.) and Maas each won a diving event. Erin Pollyea (Lincolnwood, Ill.) won the 100 breast and the 400 free relay team of Claire Brock (Appleton, Wis.), Elizabeth Schleis (Green Bay, Wis.), Randi Fletcher (Libertyville, Ill.) and Kelly Goetsch (Plymouth, Wis.) won its event.

The Panthers are back in the pool on Friday and Saturday for the Windy City Invite in Chicago. The meet is hosted by UIC.
