Freshman swimmer earns honor after strong performance at Wheaton

Milwaukee - UWM freshman sprinter Matt Schmaling (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) has been named the MCC Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, the conference office has announced.

Schmaling won both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in a meet at Wheaton, in times of 21.89 and 47.82 respectively. He also swam the anchor leg of the winning 400 free relay in a time of 3:12.89. The Panthers went on to win the meet against Wheaton, 150-86.

The UWM swimmers return to action on Friday, Nov. 12, when they play host to Butler and Northern Iowa at the Klotsche Center. The meet begins at 6:00 p.m.
