The UWM swimming and diving team captured their first season victory Friday night when they defeated Wheaton College. The men won with a dominant score, 133-89, and the women edged Wheaton to a 123-114 final.

In the pool for the men, a strong freshmen and sophomore showing paced the Panthers with seven first-place finishes, in addition to a 400 relay medley victory. Sophomore Peter Clark claimed victories in the 200 fly and 500 free in the meet and freshman Josh Baseheart captured one in the 50 free. Fellow sophomore teammates David Faust and Matt Schmaling took home one apiece. Junior divers Nick Seider and Marco Gruchalski won one- and three- meter diving, respectively for the Panthers.UWM's 400 relay team of Baseheart, Faust, senior Bill Kuri and Schmaling also placed first.

On the women's side, another talented group gave the Panthers a lift as they topped the Crusaders. Three different freshmen grabbed individual firsts for UWM as did two sophomores. Freshman Kristin Cefalu, Sarah Walby, Jen Kedinger, and sophomores Beth Watt and Krystina Herzog placed first in their events. Senior diver Amanda Maas easily won three-meter diving and senior Jamie Cyganiak took second in the event. Maas also finished second in one-meter diving.

The Panthers are next in action Friday, November 10 as they play host to MCC rival Butler and Northern Illinois at 5:00 pm at the Klotsche Center. The Panther men improved their overall record to 1-2 and the women evened out their record to 1-1 overall.
