Panthers Add Three Swimmers to Roster
Baseheart was a state champion, Vukovljak was a state runner-up and Bradley was a state finalist
May 31, 2000 MILWAUKEE--University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee head swimming and diving coach Dave Clark added three more student-athletes to his roster, he announced today. Josh Baseheart (Milwaukee, Wis./King) was the WIAA Division 1 state champion in the 50 free this past season. "Before Josh, the last time a city program had a WIAA state boys' swimming champion was in the late 1960s," said Clark. "Josh is an incredible student-athlete, and his national experience with the Schroeder YMCA helps make him a very valuable addition to our team." Goran Vukovljak (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest) was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle relay at the Illinois high school state meet. "Goran is a real diamond in the rough," said Clark. "He has only had three years of swimming experience in high school, so his upside is tremendous." Danielle Bradley (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeast) was a two-time state finalist in both the 100 fly and the 200 IM. "Danielle has improved steadily in her career, which leads me to believe that her best swimming will come during her collegiate future," said Clark. Also, the Panthers signed seven swimmers during the fall signing period. Nick Bowers (Delavan, Wis./Darien) was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley relay at the Wisconsin Division 2 state championship meet. Bowers was also a finalist in the 50 free. "Nick is a solid swimmer," Clark said, " I expect a lot ftom Nick in the upcoming year. He should be in the hunt for the breaststroke leg of our medley relay from the start." Mike Kurziak (West Allis, Wis./Hale) was a finalist in the I 00 breaststroke at the WLAA Division I state championship meet. "Mike is the best swimmer to come from Nathan Hale in years," Clark stated. "He has a lot of talent and I expect that he will be an integral part of our team's success in next season." Jamie Mantle (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) was a finalist in the 200 individual medley in both his junior and senior seasons in the Minnesota AA state championships. He was also a state finalist in the 100 back in 1999. "Jamie is an extremely versatile swimmer. He can handle all the strokes well," Clark said. " He should be a great addition to our IM corps next season." Sarah Caldwell (West Bend, Wis./West) was a four-year state finalist in the 100 breaststroke in WIAA State Division I meet. She also was a three-year finalist in the 200 individual medley. "Sarah is one of the best student-athletes to grace our program ever." Clark said. "Her best times will challenge our school records from the start. I really look forward to having Sarah in our program next year." Jenn Moore (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) was a state finalist in both the 200 free and 500 free at the WLAA Division 2 State Championship meets for the past two seasons. "Jenn is a true distance swimmer and a great student," said Clark. |
