Recruits shore up already deep and talented recruiting class May 13, 1999 MILWAUKEE - UWM swimming Head Coach Dave Clark announced that three more student athletes have signed to join the Panthers next season. Here is a look at the recruits: Rachel Smith (Superior, Wis.-Superior) was a state finalist in the 100 breaststroke in 1998. "She is a raw talent and if she continues her improvement she should battle for a spot on the medley relays by the end of the season," Clark said. Renee Porter (Wauwatosa, Wis.-West) was a four-time All-State sprinter in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Porter was the Division 2 WIAA state champion in the 100 free. Her best times in the 50 and 100 freestyle would be school records at UWM. She has earned All-American consideration times in the 50 and 100 freestyle in each of the past four seasons. "Renee is a proven talent," said Clark. "With full-time devotion to swimming I expect that she will be one of the best swimmers in the MCC." Alex Anhalt (Ft. Atkinson, Wis.-Ft. Atkinson) was a Division 2 WIAA State Finalist in the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay in 1999. "Alex only started swimming as a junior in high school," said Clark. "He is a real diamond in the rough. With year-round training he should have a real chance to shine." |
