Dave Clark Announces Men's Swimming Recruiting Class
Five recruits should make an immediate impact
May 6, 1999 MILWAUKEE - An immediate impact is expected from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming recruiting class, according to Head Coach Dave Clark. Five student-athletes have signed to join the Panthers next season, Clark announced today.
"We had a lot of work to do in replacing the six seniors we lost," said Clark. "We replaced our people leaving with excellent people. I expect to see lots of frosh and varsity records fall next year. One of the incoming recruits could hold a school record with his high school best. Antoher could have won the MCC with his best time in his premier event."
Here is a look at the recruits;
Peter Clark (Whitefish Bay, Wis.-Whitefish Bay) is coach Clark's son. He was a two-time Wisconsin high school state champion in the 500 free. Clark earned All-American honors in the 200 free relay in 1998. He was a member of two high school state championships and a runner up finish in 1999. Clark also was a three-time All-State selection in the 200 and 500 free and was a two-time nominee for WIAA Swimmer of the Year. He holds the high school state record in the 200 and 400 free relays and the 200 medley relay. In the 200, 500, and 1000 freestyles, Clark was named a Junior Championship qualifier.
"Peter will have an immediate impact on our team and in our conference," coach Clark said.
David Faust (Eden Prarie, Minn.-Eden Prarie) was a Minnesota high school state finalist in the 200 and 500 freestyle last season. His time in the 1000 free would set a freshman record at UWM.
"David will be a great asset to us in the distance races," said Clark. "He should have an immediate impact in our program."
Greg Gedemer (Racine, Wis.-Park) was a two-time state finalist in the 500 and a state finalist in the 200 in 1999.
"Greg has been the premier distance swimmer in a sprint program," said Clark. "He has tremendous potential to succeed with a more distance-oriented program."

He was an All-State selection in the 50 free, 100 fly, a member of the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay in 1998. Schmaling was also All-State in the 200 free relay in 1999.
